Installation of Oracle Solaris 11.3

This document describes the steps to install Oracle Solaris 11.3 in Oracle Virtual Box.

Installation:

  • Download the Software from www.oracle.com Here the downloaded ISO file for Oracle Solaris is  “sol-11_3-ai-x86”
  • Boot the installation media. The below screen will be shown and select the default option as  ” Oracle Solaris 11.3 Automated Install Custom”  and click Enter to continue with Installation.

  • In next screen it will ask for the manifest location. Type as default and Press Enter key.

  • The installation will continue as shown in below picture.

  • After completion of the installation Reboot the system. The System configuration window will appear as shown below. To continue with system configuration Press  “F2” .

  • Enter the Computer Name and Press “F2” to continue.

  • Choose a type of network from the list to configure network and press F2.

  • Select the Timezone region from the list.

  • Select the location for the timezone and press F2 .

  • To accept the listed timezone press F2.

  • Select the system language from the given list.

  • Select the language territory and press F2 .

  • Set the date and time for the system here.

  • Select the language for keyboard from the given list and press F2.

  • Enter the Password for system root user and optionally you can create the system users.

  • If you want register your system with Oracle Support please enter Email and Password. Press F2 to continue.

  • The below screen will show the configuration summary. Check the Summary screen and press F2 to apply.

  • The System Configuration completes and the below screen will be shown. Enter the user name and password to login.

  • This completes the installation procedure. If you want to configure the desktop manger follow the steps.
  • Set the Package repository and install basic XWindow libraries by using below commands.

  • To configure a complete Desktop Manager, install the slim_install package as follows.

  • After the installation of the above package once REBOOT the machine. The WELCOME screen will be shown as below. Enter the user and password and Click on Login button.

  • The Desktop of your system will be shown and the system is ready to use.
